The Seventeenth Day
She felt it stop before anyone told her. Somewhere under Dereth a count had been going backward for a very long time, and it had not reached the first day. It had been stopped short, by hands, and the day did not come round.
Damned to all Hells, she said, when will this infernal loop end!!! Then she stopped, because she had said it, and there was nothing behind the words. The road out of Arwic was only a road.
The letter in her hand was his, curse be His name: the thing they had been caught stealing, that she had been reading for months and had only now been handed, by people she did not know, who had gone down where the Sisters sent her party and finished what it could not.

The Seventeenth Day
Geraine, Past and Future, is dead. The Rangers went down through the Gurogs to the deepest chamber of the Tainted Grotto, where he stood in two times at once, and smote him there. The whole world heard the count stop. Whatever he was devising, he did not finish it, and his master, whose name nobody knows, will not receive it.

The Seventeenth Day Release Notes
The Seventeenth Day has ended by the sword, not by the calendar.
- Geraine, Past and Future does not return. The Gurogs are gone from the Tainted Grotto and its doorstep; the Burun are back.
- Eirlys is gone from Snowy Valley. The three Courses, the fragments and Kuyiza's reading remain until the close of 17 September: stone, iron and a warning that cannot be destroyed outlast the man who tore it.
- Marta the Chandler is gone from Arwic. She said her farewell and went through the white portal for the last time, and the hand-in closed with her; no further rings will be paid.
- A Letter, Sealed and Unsent remains. The copies carried up from the grotto stay in the packs that hold them, and there is no longer anyone in Arwic to take them.

Letter to the Players
We said it would not end early and that there was no race to Arwic; wrong about the first, right about the second. The Seventeenth Day was closed by its players. Marta paid out to the last, and the letters still being carried are theirs to keep. Tell us what worked. We will see you in Dereth.
